About congressional stock trading

Quantellect tracks 212+ members of the U.S. Congress who disclose stock trades under the STOCK Act, totaling $2.247B across 35,311 trades in 3,203 companies. This page ranks every member by the BW Score, a 0–100 measure of the quality of their disclosed stock purchases, so you can see who has traded most successfully — not just most often. Select a time range to recalculate the leaderboard, search for a specific representative or senator, or open any member for their full congressional trading history.

What is the BW Score?

The BW Score rates a member of Congress from 0 to 100 on the performance of their disclosed stock purchases over a trailing 24-month window, marked to the latest closing price. It blends four factors: estimated profit, return versus the S&P 500, hit rate (the share of buys that are currently up), and how efficiently a member converts trading volume into gains. A member needs at least two priced disclosed buys in the window to receive a score, and thin track records are capped so a single lucky trade cannot top the leaderboard. Nancy Pelosi currently holds the #1 BW Score.

Frequently asked questions

How can I track Congress stock trades?

You can track Congress stock trades on this page, which compiles every U.S. Senator's and Representative's disclosed stock transactions from their STOCK Act periodic transaction reports. Each member is ranked by the BW Score and links to a full trade history with prices, dates, and estimated returns.

Can members of Congress trade stocks?

Yes. Members of Congress are allowed to buy and sell individual stocks, but the 2012 STOCK Act requires them to publicly disclose each transaction within 45 days. Quantellect aggregates those disclosures so the trades are searchable in one place.

Are Congress stock trades public?

Yes. Under the STOCK Act, every covered transaction by a member of Congress (or their spouse and dependent children) must be filed in a public periodic transaction report. This page surfaces those filings as a ranked, searchable list.

What is congressional stock trading?

Congressional stock trading refers to members of the U.S. Congress buying and selling stocks and other securities while in office. Because lawmakers can access non-public briefings, their trades are disclosed under the STOCK Act and tracked here for transparency.

Is congressional stock trading banned?

No, congressional stock trading is not currently banned. Several bills to prohibit or restrict it have been introduced in Congress, but none has become law, so members may still trade individual stocks subject to STOCK Act disclosure.

Not investment advice. Congressional trading data is sourced from public STOCK Act disclosures, which are filed with a delay and may contain errors or be revised. Estimated prices and post-trade returns are derived algorithmically from public filings and end-of-day market data and describe historical activity, not a recommendation. Always do your own research and consult a licensed financial advisor before making investment decisions.
